Description
The book follows a Kodály programme and is attractively presented in full colour with original illustrations and instructions for singing games. Designed for children in Years 2 – 3, the programme is suitable for use in classroom teaching, and also works well with small groups and single pupils. Pupils learn simple songs and rhymes taught through singing games and activities. Notated in rhythm solfa, songs start from two pitches and follow a progression through pentatonic repertoire to a ‘do’ (G) pentachord (5-note scale). The songs provide progressive material for first repertoire on the recorder. There are opportunities for ensemble playing with simple ostinatos and canons to develop the ear and sense of pulse, as well as to offer enjoyable performance material. In addition to songs and solfa exercises there are rhythm and written exercises, helping pupils to develop music reading and writing skills. Simple stave notation is introduced.
